Rebuilding Ruins
October 27, 2024

Over the past three years, we have dedicated ourselves to rebuilding our earth houses, which were once in complete ruins. Our journey began with several months of preparation, removing fallen roofs, clearing out fallen walls, cutting back the bramble that had overtaken the property and removing many m3 of soil from the houses to make a proper foundation.

Once the cleanup was complete, we turned our attention to stabilising the earth walls with ring anchors and pillars that became the foundation for a beautifully insulated roof. Following the roofing process, we plastered the walls using traditional Roman techniques, slaking lime stone to cover and protect the walls, allowing them to breathe, preserving the integrity of the original structure.

When we tell the story of the reconstruction many people look at us incredulously, but as we stated before, we did most of it on our own, with our hands. Today, we are delighted to offer these lovingly restored houses to our visitors and guests, providing a unique experience surrounded by nature and history. We take pride in sharing the fruits of our labor and the beauty of Quinta Viva with everyone who comes to stay.
